Good Universities in New York?

Im planning on moving to New York. Im currently a student at USC and Im thinking of transferring to NYU. But I would also like to know what other universites I could transfer to in New York.

Thanks

NYC - NYU/Banard/Columbia

NY - Cornell

‘could’? I don’t know, but y17k is right, those are the best schools in the city/state. If you want easier schools there are CUNY or SUNY schools but they aren’t that great.

sagz, just curious as to why you’re considering transferring from 'SC. I am at a school in NY, Hofstra University, private school in Hempstead NY on LOng Island. I’ve applied to transfer to 'SC and would give my first born if need be after visiting and attending classes with a friend of mine. Do you not like LA or the school itself? Hofstra is an ok school in NY. Certain programs are very good and a lot of the professors work in the field and have the highest degree in their field. It’s def not as good as USC though. To get into the best schools in NY you’d probably need really great grades, especially NYU and Colombia. Also what kind of atmosphere are you looking for, at Colombia and NYU you’re campus is nonexistent it’s pretty much NYC for NYU and the Bronx(down the road from Harlem) for Colombia. On Long Island, Hofstra would be your best bet, but it’s pricey and financial aid is not very good.

…Bronx isn’t down the road from harlem…

TrojanWannabe is right though, NYU really doesn’t have that much of a campussy feel, ColUmbia is better in that sense, but good luck getting in there.

Yeah Fordham is in the Bronx, not Columbia, my mistake. Columbia is right down the road from Harlem. Its 4 minutes on Mapquest from the school’s address to Columbia. Seeing as you currently attend school in downtown LA im sure it wouldnt be too much of a difference. Although as Jacknjill said good luck getting into Columbia.

Cooper Union

Cooper Union is also a very prestigious school but it’s one of the hardest schools to get into I think since all the students get a full ride (it’s free). I think its mainly engineering, and overall not too fun, but is very very good.

Room and board isn’t free

Fordham University Lincoln Center–same prestigious uni as the one in the Bronx, but the campus is in a great neighborhood on the Upper West Side (near Central Park, Metropolitan Opera, not too far from Times Square).
