Goodbye Tom. I really miss Click and Clack/Cartalk

<p>Another fan here. I know next to nothing about cars but loved their show for its humor. My heart goes out to Tom’s family and friends. </p>

<p>I love that show! DS and I listen to it every Saturday morning, on the way to his trumpet lesson. I had no idea that the shows were re-runs. I’ve been listening to them off and on for years. I was shocked to hear that Tom died, and of Alzheimer’s! It’s shocking that he was mentally intact two years ago and declined so quickly.</p>

<p>I’ve been a fan for over 25 years. After moving to the South from Massachusetts’ South Shore, listening to their accents was like a brief visit home :slight_smile: RIP Tom. PS - My first car was a Dodge Dart.</p>

<p>Over the past two years, they seem to have used rerun calls (note that the cars the past two years were all circa 1995 and older), but then had cut-ins such as the puzzler and references to current events that were contemporaneous. They didn’t have a website in 1989!</p>

<p>They were a part of our family weekend mornings for many years. Would have loved to hear about their days at MIT. Probably caused all kinds of mischief!</p>

<p>Yes, driving to soccer games every week. So many fans must have tuned in.</p>

<p>Oh, sad. It was the only place, as a woman, I got car advice. Also loved thinking of them as regular guys at MIT. So fun. </p>

<p>Absolutely shocked. I listened to a couple of their shows towards the end and Alz was the last thing that crossed my mind based on the dialog. And like Bromfield, I too was a big fan of the closing credits.</p>

<p>DH was able to figure out what was wrong with my little sports car while listening to a show. He and our 12 yr old tuned in every Saturday on the way to golf lessons. They loved the closing credits. Yesterday, DD came running upstairs calling her dad but he had already left for work. She said, “Mom, one of the CarTalk dudes died!” Even this 12 yr old was touched by Click and Clack.</p>

<p>When I heard the news it was if I was hearing about the loss of a family member. I’ve been listening to the guys since 1989. I will miss him terribly and my heart goes out to Ray and his entire family.</p>

<p>I listened to Terry Gross’ tribute to Tom yesterday and laughed and cried. It included clips from old shows, older interviews with the two guys, and one current one with Doug “not a slave to fashion” Berman, their long-time producer. </p>

<p>I never listened to Click and Clack as I’ve never listened to NPR, but I know that they gave the commencement speech at MIT in 1999. I imagine it is somewhere on youtube. Those of you who are fans might want to check it out.</p>
