<p>I also just got a rejection email, applied by Dec. 5th. Really bummed because I thought I had a fighting chance to at least get an interview. I have a 3.49 GPA… I wonder if that was what lessened my chances. Either that, or my essay bombed even though I thought it was really good. </p>

<p>Hi guys, I got a rejection email today too; I go to a top-tier university, my GPA is high, I have lots of extracurriculars AND I had a recommendation. Who knows what their cutoff is. Good luck to everyone else.</p>
<p>Yup, me too! (aside from my gpa, which is pretty average). I go to a university they heavily recruit at so I thought I’d have a chance if every other part of my app was solid. Maybe it’s because I’m Asian. It’s hard not to dwell on the “what-ifs”. But can’t help but have that cross my mind since last year at my school every intern they hired was black or hispanic. Welp, going to keep on trying elsewhere!</p>
<p>I applied the day before the deadline. My GPA is average. I also got a referral from someone at Google. I’m a Computer Science major and in my essay, I talked about being gay and how I have changed the community at my school by being open about it.</p>

<p>Last year I applied day of the deadline and got a response back around the 17th. It seems that as they go through the applications they start filing positions. I think they weed a lot of people out during the first interview. I’m from Madison and know a lot of people that that got the first interview but didn’t move on.
Last year I got to the final interview but didn’t get it, maybe this year :). Good luck everyone, we would be hearing people get interviews soon. The process, once started, is very fast.</p>

<p>How many people get rejected the first round?</p>
<p>Not sure about last year, but someone posted on the BOLD 2011 thread that there were 140 BOLD interns in 2010 out of the 3,400 that applied.</p>
<p>Also, to those of you who had a recommendation from a Googler – have you heard back yet? The email I got said we should be hearing back in a week, but I still have no news.</p>
<p>I was recommended by a Googler and still have not heard back, though I too heard that we should hear back in about week.</p>
<p>Google is supposed to be dramatically increasing their number of hires this year, but I do not know if this will translate into more BOLD interns.</p>
