“For many, selecting the right college is an early and important step in preparing for the future. The process to find the right school for you, however, can be confusing. …That’s why we’re bringing a new feature to Search to help you navigate the college search process. Now when you search for a 4-year U.S. college like UCLA or Spelman College, information about admissions, cost, student life and more will surface directly in Search, making it easier to explore educational options and find a college that meets your needs.”

I just saw this in Google’s blog, and it sounds interesting. Thoughts?
My first thought would be to wonder where they pull data from, particularly for acceptance rates, SATs, and costs. There is often quite a time lag for info contained on sites that aggregate data (including NCES) compared to new info colleges post directly on their own websites (on their own individual timeframes of course).
Adding: ok, I just saw that they are pulling from NCES/IPEDS, which makes sense. It’s just worth noting that the Class of 2021 data contained in the 2017-18 CDS just became searchable on NCES in the last couple of weeks as the Class of 2023 gears up for its search. In other words, 2022 data - with more accurate New SAT scores and the latest acceptance rates - won’t be in the google app for another year whereas most colleges will post 2022 profile information directly on their websites this fall, in time to be useful for Class of 2023 early apps.
I don’t know where the data is pulled from, but I’d assume (of course this is just an assumption) that due to their spiders crawling all over the web, their information would be more up to date than, say, the Fiske Guide I bought two years ago for my D17’s college search.
Hmmm… now if they had introduced this before I made my college list and applied…
Would’ve been nice, @MrElonMusk!
The data they are showing is out of date by about 4 to 5 years.
Also the similar colleges needs work… U Texas, similar colleges… Austin Community College, Harvard.
The info is out dated and incorrect.
I also find I’m being bombarded with useless college rankings. Difficult to see the more useful and current information and news regarding the school.
@evergreen5 I am wondering what high school seniors are thinking when they look at this data.
I hope Google changes the layout soon.
Is that is even possible ?? Does anyone have any info about that.
Also, I currently don’t have access to my desktop. Is this info only showing on cellphones?
