Want to replace our landline, keeping our phone number. With google voice, it seems I need to port our ph# to a tmobile cell phone first and then to google. Ooma seems simpler to set up, but then higher costs. Want to keep ability to call 911. Looking for advice on best options. Thanks
I am not familiar with Ooma. I have Google Voice, which costs nothing. I have had several Google Voice phone numbers, but I have never tried porting a number to Google Voice. I have an Obi device that I plug my phone into. After buying that device there is no monthly charge. I use the Google Voice phone to make international calls because the rates are great (Calls to Canada are free, and I can put money in my Google account to pay for international calls). Sound quality on the Google Voice/Obi phone is better than MagicJack, which we also have.
We bought an Ooma on sale, kept our “landline” (was via internet provider, technically not hardwired) and pay less than $5 (closer to $4) per month. Works well, good quality and was an easy switch.
