gorgeous

i just visited today, it was a long drive from LI. but when i got there, i was surprised. i heard it was beautiful but i didnt expect it to be this amazing. yeah so this is without a doubt the best campus that i’ve seen, princeton comes in 2nd. what are my chances as a prospective student?, as of now that is.
sat: 1970
aps: american, physics, english (more next year)
act: idk yet, all i have to say is pray b/c i winged it
extra curriculars: science research (e. coli environmental stress @ st. john’s university)
vars tennis/track
etc, etc…

supposing i try intel and other sci fairs and perhaps get my sats a little higher (oh yeah i have sucky sat2s but i will prob take more and prepare this time) and maintain a 97 gpa dn 7% rank, will i have a chance early decision at cornell (human ecology or cals, idk yet, suggestions?)

yes, sat’s bump that up. also, hows your couseload? i have somewhat similar stats as you and i plan to apply as well.

“yes, sat’s bump that up. also, hows your couseload? i have somewhat similar stats as you and i plan to apply as well.”

i’m taking the most challenging courses offered by my school. right now that includes ap american, ap english, ap physics, pre calc, and spanish 4. how about you? how are your sats if u don’t mind my asking?

You need a higher SAT score.

yeah, i applied with a 1950 (1330 on old scale) and i got waitlisted for cals bio. i did sci research, took the most challenging classes etc… but applying ED will DEF help… but so will higher sats (i was too pained to retake the sats after coming home from round 1 with a pounding headace). Unluckily for me, it doesnt look like anyone is getting off the waitlist this year. :frowning: You’re cahnces are there, esp with ED and with higher sats AND ED you’re in. best of luck!!

thanks kurplunk18

having high SAT scores is good, but having average SAT scores isn’t bad. i took the test twice and scored 1960 and 1970, which adding the top scores from each section only got me 2030. and my sat IIs were worse soo … not even going there.

just make sure, as everyone else said, to take as many high level courses (those that u are really interested in and can do well in). its good that ur doing sports so keep up with those and if u go to counties, conferences, states, etc. those help too. science competitions and programs help especially if it has any connection to your interest and major. but regardless, just keep on doing things you want to do and achieve. and if cornell is ur first choice, ED is the way to go! good luck and if u have questions, PM me.

thanks kryptoniteman. i plan on applying to cornell (CALS or Human Ecology- not sure which one, any suggestions?) ED. I am unsure of a specific major but it should be one that takes me down the path or premed-ish because I want to be a doctor. I am taking the toughest courses my school offers, but as far as standardized tests are concerned, i’m stuck. i mean i have average scores, but that may not be good enough considering the acceptance %s. sighh

Try to be realistic without putting urself down; SAT scores arn’t everything. A great gpa comes before SAT scores because it shows you can do the work and excel at it, high SAT scores or not. Don’t get me wrong, SAT’s are definitely important (and you should keep working on them!), but just remember there are many other catagories that could sway the admissions committee!

i also got a 1970 overall as my highest combined, with extracurriculars and 16 out of 923 students ranking and i got into arts and sciences

Wow that’s one nice rank (%). If anything with that SAT score it shows that you work ur butt off to excel, and that it doesn’t just come easy/without any work. Great job with that rank, you must be committed!

fascinated: i’m glad you pick cornell over princeton for beauty. I agree with you that they’re a close 1 and 2, at least in the campuses i’ve seen. (born/raised in princeton, but rising sophomore at cornell) princeton can’t be matched for the architecture, and doesn’t do so bad for natural beauty itself, what with the huge trees, woods, lake carnigie, etc., but cornell blew me away with the gorges. I mean seriously, a waterfall in the middle of campus? over the top, really… i love it here at cornell.
