Gossip-Duchess’s EFC

I think it was likely a situation where everyone paid what they could. I don’t really know how a sibling would know. Younger siblings may have an idea because they’re still at home and may hear conversations, but I don’t think older siblings are that involved.

I find the relationships fascinating from a psychological perspective. At some point you’d think Megan’s family on her dad’s side would grasp that if they ever want a chance to be a part of her life they need to quit talking to the press and making posts in social media. Her father-in-law is the future king of England, so there is no in-law disagreement that they’re ever going to win. And taking their squabbles to the press is a public relations nightmare. I wonder what drives people to continue to do things that don’t seem to be in their own best interest.

I guess resement is probably because NU was expensive and father paid more for her than for colleges of her step siblings, even though she had partial aid, merit and some income. It’s possible that both parties are right.

Meghan Markle’s half sister was in her mid-30’s by the time Meghan was applying to college. I doubt she was all that involved in Meghan’s applications.

MM got into Northwestern. No sense trying to validate the sibling’s attempt to make themselves valid. They can do that in their own lives. This is all nothing but fanning the flames of underinformed gossip. Most of us see this stuff and move on.

A few points.

  1. Look at who has credibility. Do the actions of her step-sister make her seem like a credible, grounded person?
  2. We know nothing about the father’s financial situation. Just because he WON $750k doesn’t mean he HAD $750k. First, you don’t get what you won, 'cause taxes. Second, maybe he took the periodic payout, in which case he gets paid out over time. Third, even if he did get a large lump sum, maybe he spent it before it was time to fill out FA forms, so he did not HAVE the money, nor was it income because he won it several years before she went to college. These are all possibilities.
  3. As my father always says, don’t count other people’s money.

@CupCakeMuffins no merit or undergrads at NU.

There might have been merit aid at NU in the early 2000’s. She might have had outside merit aid. She might have had sorority merit aid. She graduated from a Catholic school and there are lots of private scholarships available to those students that they can take to their colleges.

I don’t think she had a ton of cash while in college. She did calligraphy on wedding and bar mitzvah invitations to make extra money.

Now she’s wearing $6000 dresses and $2000 shoes. Who cares?

But perhaps NU had merit in the past…folks say that Penn doesn’t give merit $, but DH was a Ben Franklin Scholar in the early 80s and it came with full tuition based on merit within need.

Lots of ways to cobble together the costs of college; parents, student and sibs can all have different perspectives.
