It’s none of our business but for research purposes, what’s your opinion? Did he pay with lottery and income or she was eligible for aid and merit?
I wish they would all stop. Just leave her alone to be happy . I think there is so much jealousy .
I get the jealousy part but just want to establish that as father was affluent then and won a lottery as well so were she eligible for much need based aid?
What sort of merit scholarships NW had and can full time students really support themselves with work study program if EFC is very high?
We can understand minority single social worker mom factor playing in admission but did it help with financial aid? I don’t see why would she feel a need to lie unnecessarily but who knows.
Who cares?
What downtoearth and patsmom said. Who cares?
It’s no wonder she is estranged from so many of these family members. Leave her alone. Why anyone cares, I have no idea. How unsurprising that it is Fox News.
Really, LEAVE HER ALONE. No wonder she is estranged from that bunch of horrible people. Luckily, her mother seems like a wonderful lady.
Thank goodness she has such a lovely mother. I don’t blame her for not having anything to do with the rest of the family!
Who cares? I don’t really have an opinion but if her half sister had proof, she should have shown it rather than just talked about it.
Meghan Markle has moved on, to put it lightly! She has left this part of her family behind and the more they talk like this, the less she will even consider addressing them. They are being pathetic.
Boy oh boy, that half sister is a piece of work. She showed up at Kensington Palace and caused a media scene ‘wanting to talk to her sister’. Talk about avoiding Thanksgiving with some members of your family!!!
The whole thing must be terribly embarrassing and stressful for the Duchess.
Since the Duchess is now English and the father lives in Mexico, perhaps Thanksgiving is no longer a thing for the Markles?
This thread gave me faith in decency.
I don’t believe anything the family says and even if its true , they should just shut up. It could be Meghan was the princess and got preferential treatment in her family. That happens in a lot of families… The fact that she has done well for herself, probably ticks them off. But I am just not interested in hearing anything about it. I enjoy watching the weddings etc. just for the distraction from the other stuff going on in this world. I just wish they would move on.
Meghan seems like a fairly intelligent person, why would she say something that could be easily called out on if it wasn’t true (NU would know if someone received any aids). Again, as others have said, who really cares. She has no impact on most of our lives, other than it is entertaining to see her wedding and her babies someday.
It is hard to believe she belongs to that circus but my question was about financial aid situation of affluent families with lottery money getting financial aid, not specifically about her personal life.
The lottery money was $750,000–not like he won the billion-plus jackpot. That was several years before she started college so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if it was gone by then. He’s obviously not someone who makes great life choices and he did declare bankruptcy a few years ago.
Also, she didn’t say that her father/parents paid nothing for her college, but said that she received grants, scholarships, and work study to to make college possible. My kids did too, and I also paid some. I don’t know what the rules were ~20 years ago, but she could have filed a FAFSA with her mother as the parent, and received some aid and work study, and her father may have covered the gap.
It’s likely she did have some work money and some parent help, as she was in a sorority and that probably cost a few thousand $$. We all get through college, or get our kids through, with many sources of funds. All welcome.
My father also thought he paid for my college and often told people that. He did pay a little, but most of it was my working during the school year and summers. No loans, no grants, just work. Different views of the same facts.
Yeah, my dad thinks he paid for my education too but I got lots of merit and FAid. He and mom did pay for my travel so I could spend the summer working and living in HNL (even when I had jobs I was tempted to accept in the states where I attended school).
She entered college in 1999, graduated in 2003. No lessons to be learned today. So what’s the real interest here?
And his winnings were in 1990. As I see it reported, he first filed for bankruptcy in 91 and 93. He made some good decisions and bad. It’s suggested he helped all 3 kids, when he could. But the well ran dry.
Why such interest in this? Do a little background research, if you’re so worried she cheated or lied.
I’m sorry. As a former subject of British empire, viewer of her tv programming/films and reader of news and a parent interested in financial aid issues, I found it a bit interesting of how parents and children see things differently.
It seems you have already done good enough research, my question is answered. Thank you for taking time to post on this thread.
