Just got 50% on my Intermediate Economics Midterm (1.0) and I only have one midterm and final to raise my grade as an Economics major. I barely got any sleep (less than 5 hours of sleep) the night before because of interview and test anxiety in the morning. I went over my exam and understand what I got wrong and feel like my exam wasn’t completely a fair representation of my understanding.

My professor said I should consider changing my major to Psychology, which is the same what the Business Advisor told me to major in last year either in Psychology or Communications. One reason they keep on telling me it’s an easier major since it’s more interesting. But I’m not very interested in it. I’m currently a junior with 3.0 and got several interviews and did okay in my classes up to this point. I’m interested in fitness and fashion. I would like to something related to finance, buying, or marketing. I’m double majoring in Apparel and Textiles. I originally wanted to major in either Architecture/Apparel and Textiles, Accounting/Economics, or Dietetics & Kinesiology.

Should I change my major or transfer? I feel like a failure because I have no interview offers and going through interviews it made me question what I want to do with my life and major in. I don’t even know what else I could major in to find a job?

you’re saying you’ve had interviews, but you are uncertain whether you will move further in their selection process? Interviewing is a skill; you have to learn to be professional, yet witty. They get a surplus of qualified applicants, and of those people, they choose the ones that stand out.

what?? you should explain your situation a little better, because from the sounds of it, your advisers are ■■■.

Well I need 7-10 hours of sleep or I feel depressed. I told my advisors that I wanted a career in business (ex: FI/ACC, MKT, HR, SCM, or MIS) but they looked at my transcript it it shows that I did better in my gen eds or electives like COM and PSY versus my required classes (ex: EC and ACC). The problem is I’m not interested in COM and PSY or at less compared to Economics and previously Accounting.

It’s frustrating because with interviews they are either early in the morning or late in the afternoon and my interviewers seem disinterested and end asking behavioral questions in 10 minutes. Then I have to ask 20 minutes of questions to fill up the time.

they let you sign up for interview times don’t they? if you’re signing up late, you will be stuck with crappy times because more diligent people have already taken the good slots. Personally, I would rather be the last one in the afternoon, because they will remember you the most.

If you’re doing worse in your core curriculum than your electives, you might have a problem. If your cum GPA is 3.0 now, then that means your core GPA is 2.something. My advise is look up jobs, talk to employers, and see what’s out there. You can’t really know what you want to do unless you actually know what jobs are out there. Go to the company info sessions, talk to career advisers, and use your resources.
