When I got this email, I was rather skeptical, and my suspicions aroused due to the fact that my SAT scores are nowhere near their optimal requirements. In case anyone is curious, my SAT scores were: 630 for math, 580 for writing with a 10 on the essay, and a 550 in critical reading; slightly above average scores but nothing to brag about here. I’m probably going to have to take this again as it was my first time taking the SAT. My grades aren’t exactly spectacular either, but I guess they’re rather on the decent side. Just today, they sent me an email with my name sharing information about their 2015-2016 essay question. It was from the dean of admissions named “Eric J. Furda”. The odd part is that I’ve never collaborated with Penn State University before. In fact, I don’t even know how they got my name and email address. Anyone else got similar email messages? When I clicked on the links on the email, it directed me to a page explaining how they want the essay to be written.
How is it suspicious? I get hundreds of emails from colleges I’ve never showed interest in. They just send emails to as many people as they can.
That’s UPenn. I got one too by the way. There’s marketing 101 for you.
If you checked yes for the school search option when you registered for the SAT, you will get tons of emails from schools, even from some that you have almost no chance of getting admitted to. These emails may make you believe the school wants YOU, when in fact they want your application and application fee. Colleges are businesses.
I’m not sure if I checked the box for school search option. And, frankly, it’s rather suspicious due to the fact that college interest emails go to another email address, not my primary email address. And so far, I haven’t gotten a single email from any college on my primary email account. But who knows, they may start to come in during the fall. Given that, I would have to wait and see. I’m not foolish enough to apply for a university or college that I have no chance of getting into.
Simply send it to spam or unsuscribe.
PolyglotGal is right! Lesson one of admissions: UPenn is not Penn State.
we got it too; have no interest in UPenn as its just not on our radar; its legit though
You’re lucky; I keep getting Yale and Harvard spam.
Yeah, Yeah, I get the point now. End of discussion here.
Upenn is not penn state
They are trying to get as many people to apply as possible to boost their rankings.
Well, excuse me for the foolish error. The institution in question was the University of Pennsylvania, not Penn state. Well, that’s cleared up. End of discussion.
Haha yup @Nazam32 You got it now Penn State =/ UPenn
