I’m asking because I was looking through the work study positions at my school, but either it doesn’t fit my schedule or I’m not exactly qualified for the type of work.
Non-work study jobs seem to fit better for me.
Do I get penalized if I can’t find a work study job during the year even though I was approved?
Lots of students can’t find work study jobs that fit their schedules or that they are qualified for, so if that turns out to be your situation, and you can find a non-work study job instead, you shouldn’t worry. But do let the financial aid office know about how hard it was to find a work study job and maybe next year they will improve their system.
Before you decide that being “not exactly qualified” for a specific position means that you can’t be hired, put in your application anyway. If you still might be the best candidate to apply and could be offered the job.
No, you won’t be penalized. Has school started? Has there been a job fair yet? Many schools do this a couple weeks into the fall semester. Many jobs can pop-up that aren’t listed plus it gives you a chance to talk to them directly about what qualifications you should have. I agree to put in your applications to anything you think might work as many of these jobs expect to train students. For example, you may not feel qualified to work in the costume shop or scene shop because you’ve never sewed or used a jigsaw but those are positions that always seem thrilled to get students and happy to train beginners… plus there is a lot of work that isn’t as skilled (sewing buttons, cutting patterns, painting sets, etc.)
You would not be penalized. If you just need money to cover the CoA, you may apply to non work study job as well. Note that there may be new job posting on a daily base. Just keep checking to see if something comes up and is suitable for you later.
okay thanks so much for the information!!
