Just got deferral letter today (a few hours ago)
not the happiest day of my life, but trying to be hopeful.

I applied late November with stats of SAT I 1390. SAT II 790, 740, 720. TOEFL 115/120. and GPA 3.75

The updated stats as of now: SAT I (January 2007) 1520. SAT II 790, 740, 720. TOEFL 115/120. and GPA 3.78

Should I send in new transcript and SAT score report or should I not bother?
I’m afraid even though I’m deferred, since the decision is supposed to be made by mid-April, it won’t matter if I send in new stats.

Send in the new stats ASAP!!! Sure, they may not help that much, but they definitely won’t help if you don’t send them in. And every day you wait makes them worth less, potentially. Do it! It shows renewed interest, if nothing else.

You should definitely update your already terrific stats, and be sure to let them know how much you want to attend U of Michigan. I think you have a very good chance of getting in.

I agree with MallomarCookie and DCdude! In fact, you may also want to call the admission’s office and discuss your improved scores with them. I’m sure they’ll want “official” information, but they might appreciate hearing from you, as well. It would definitely show your interest. … That was a very significant jump in SAT scores. Congratulations!

I thought the wording implied that mid April is the latest that you’ll get a decision?

It’s always good to update if you feel that it can improve your application. Showing an interest in the school is also a great thing as it can possibly push you over another deferred applicant. (in my opinion, though there are some disagreements)

yeah i got deferred as well. The only thing you can really do is send in good grades or give an update on new volunteer hours or things of that nature. Those things can help but a bulk of your decision remains in your original app and how that compares to the others.

I was in the exact same situation not too long ago. Was deferred a bit earlier than you and applied a bit earlier as well…

1) Call them. 2) Write them a letter, formal but heartfelt, letting them know that you’re still extremely interested in attending and it means a lot that they are considering you (if it DOES mean a lot…which it seems like… again write from your heart). Also update them on your most recent activity both inside and outside of school. Very important thing even though it may seem silly, PUT YOUR MICHIGAN ID NUMBER ON THE ENVELOPE AND LETTER! This will make it easy on them; it’ll open up your file again AND it’ll show the panel that you are worth the taking another look at. You are by no means a weak candidate, if you do this I think you have a better chance than you may believe of waking up one morning… with an Email saying Congrats like I did.

I’m pullin for ya! Let us know what happens,
Ry

PS another great option (I’d do this AND ^^^^that) is to get in contact with UMich’s regional director for your area. Give him/her a call and let them know who you are and your situation. If this is really what you want, and you let U Mich see it at this point in the ball game… you have a shot! I went into it thinking “If I’m gunna go down, I’m goin down swinging”… Don’t hesitate.
