Got into UCLA with a 1490??

So I was on the ucla 2016 fb group, and someone asked about SAT scores. Most were 2000s, then I saw 2 guys who got in with a 1490 and 1760. 1760 I guess is ok, but how do you get in with a 1490!??

remember that they only compare you with your classmates of your high school and your GPA. I know hundreds of people with lower than 1300’s but they were ranked in the top 10% of their class. I know hundreds of people with 3.4 GPA in high school, but they were still in the top of their class. It is all about class rank and your performance among your high school peers.

Number 1 at my school had a 1500 ACCEPTED
Number 2 had a 1600 ACCEPTED
Number 4 had a 1700 ACCEPTED
Numbers 5-10 with sub-1500s all REJECTED
Number 12 had a 1300 ACCEPTED

My class is about 100. Either, UCLA admissions are weird or, My school is the exception, not the rule.

Also if they were an athlete all bets are off. I know a player in a non revenue sport that got into UCLA and all the coaches told him was please don’t get any D’s your senior year and I can get you in and they did. This was a male.

no HCOdude, they decide its only fair to compare you with your classmates. Not all schools are the same, and not all schools are given the same opportunities such as the number of AP classes. There is no weird system because it rewards the people who reach for the top no matter how ****ty their school is. The people I have met came from high schools that did not offer a single AP class or honors. Does this mean all the people from that high school should be rejected for not going over a 4.0 GPA (because they cant without taking weighted classes).

Also if you’ve had really committed leadership roles then that could do it.

I got into UCLA with a 1730 and a 3.7 GPA but I know what got me in was my leadership roles in my community.

Sigh… Whatever keeps the curves up… There’s a WIDE range of people at UCLA.
