I think you’re stats and ECs are pretty solid. If you write a good essay, I think you have a good chance of getting in. Your stats are better than mine and I got in, minus SAT I (2240) but it isn’t that significant of a difference. Good luck!

I also think you are a very solid/ “strong” candidate, if your recommendations come through as you describe and if you can write a really strong and compelling essay.

The only concern when it comes to stats is your ranking - in the top 20% of your class. Is your school very competitive? So, it is especially important that you offset this with other parts of your application.

Also, I gather you are Asian? Then, there is probably the “embedded” fact of comparison with your ethnic group. Which is a group that tends to have high statistics. So if you are matched up against them, you might look less “stellar.” However, your ECS are very good. Spin/ reinforce these in the right way and write a dynamic essay and your chances may be increased substantially, in comparison to your ethnic peers.

The 3.75 is bringing you down a bit, the average weighted GPA of someone getting into Stern in my school is about a 4.1/4.2, but you have great SAT I/SAT II scores and the rest of your app seems to be good, so you stand a solid chance.

Thanks for the chances so far. And for all of your help. But does anyone have a suggestion on how I can make myself “different” from my fellow applicants? I know I’m going up against some of the best and brightest (including a lot of Asians), so I really need to stand out.

Essay. My gpa and test grades, were much lower than yours (minus the SAT, but I mentioned this already), and I got in RD, so I’m pretty sure my essay saved me.

I indicated what you need to do in my post upthread (#4). Make yourself come alive to the admissions committee by writing a compelling essay that draws from your very strong ECs. Also, make sure your recommenders are supporting your description of yourself and your strengths. If possible, the recommendations need to be unequivocally positive by highlighting your uniqueness and how you compare more favorably against your peers.

Alright then
Thanks for your great advice. But does NYU look that closely at essays and the like? I heard its more of a objective school, focusing more on one’s GPA and SAT. But much thanks Evolving, superexcited, fireman144, and Phwool.

i got in with a 2210 and mediocre cumulative GPA, but with a really stellar junior year. don’t worry about being asian, stern is ~70% asian. I was RD btw.

your EC’s kill mine, i’d say dont worry.
