Plenty of people on campus aren’t interested in drinking. I would definitely suggest looking into sub-free housing because it’s a great opportunity! And yes! Definitely, science is very popular here as well as visual arts with our visual arts center, although it is mostly more traditional art forms like drawing and painting and sculpture. There are no photography classes which is unfortunate. As far as rock guitarist, I know of several musicians and I have seen a few in particular take their guitars out hooked up to an amp, and they play them outside. I truly believe that everyone can fit in here.

FunkyFairy is right, but I also wanted to add that yes, a lot of people do not drink, however, the ones who are happy are the ones who aren’t judgmental about it. The most miserable person I know gets frustrated because he is so loudly anti-partying, which annoys the big group of people who do go out. A lot of people come to F (senior apartments) and the Court (frat dance parties) without drinking and have an awesome time with friends. Some just like to hang on their halls. Most people aren’t exactly the frat type, but they know how to have fun. There are lots of alternative activities on the weekends, such as playing sardines in Chambers, but even sub free people like to go to the Court occasionally.

I’m considering applying to Davidson (partially at behest of my grandmother, who has been a big influence in my life and really loves Davidson, admittedly) but it seems harder for me to get a good feel for the social atmosphere of Davidson than some of the other schools I’m considering.

About how active are Davidson students politically, and which way would you say the student body tends to lean? Also, would you say Davidson is more athletically or artistically inclined, in terms of what there is to do around campus?

I was also wondering if anyone could speak for the quality of Davidson’s neuroscience concentration? I know that Davidson pioneered undergraduate neuroscience, so I would assume that it’s top-notch, but it would be nice to talk to someone who has more knowledge about it than I do.
