Ok…after a long string of acceptance letters, here came my first rejection…eh, from Caltech, not surprising though.

March 5, 2008

{My address}

Dear Ishwar,

On behalf of the staff, faculty and students on the Admission Committee, I
would like to thank you for the time and effort taken in completing your
application to Caltech. It is with regret that the Admissions Committee is
unable to offer you a place in Caltech’s Class of 2012.

Given the number of highly qualified students who apply to Caltech each year
and the very few places available, many talented students must be turned away.

In light of the outstanding achievements and credentials you presented to
Caltech, we have no doubt that you will have tremendous success as you pursue a
demanding collegiate education. I encourage you to pursue your educational
options with the same thoughtfulness with which you considered Caltech.

Sincerely,

Richard W. Bischoff
Director of Admissions

Well…atleast they recognized me being talented, but I’m sure that the email is automated.
Anyone else like me…with a 2390 SAT rejection from caltech?

I’ve just got Princeton to hear from now…anyone know when they gonna announce?

Lol … not really, i mean, every rejection letter from Caltech says the same thing about the applicant’s outstanding achievements and credentials … it’s just a generic letter, the only thing that changes between rejection letters is your name. the stuff about you being talented and a strong applicant is basically there to make you feel better after rejection.

No rejection is easy to take. Even if you know in the back of your mind that it can happen, it’s still difficult. The fact that you got other acceptances helps, but the sting is still there. The good news is that you will get over it and be fine in a short time. In the meantime, you get to feel sorry for yourself … but do it here, not IRL, because it’s just not a good thing to whine about it in front of normal folks. You are obviously an outstanding student, so keep in mind that most people would be thrilled to have the acceptances you have. Again, it doesn’t mean you can’t feel bad. You just have to feel bad quietly! And yes, others with 2390’s are rejected from Caltech every year (including this year).

guitars101: of course everyone gets dissapointed and it is perfectly ok for him to feel bad, but this is basically a brag thread to make himself feel better. He posts his rejection letter, and talks about his “long string of acceptances” and “2390 SAT.” I was just stating the fact that most of his post was so he could boost his self esteem.

Also, some applicants are trophy hunters, “look where I got in”!!! Often when you look at the lists, the schools have little in common, just that they “look good”.

Once you breach 2300 on the SAT, your exact score is meaningless b/c it’s a difference of a few wrong questions…it’s not really an indication of some sort of incredible intelligence on your part.

Are you whining or bragging in this post? It looks like your doing a bit of both. No point in bragging to people over the internet, its not like we really care.
