Got rescinded, I have no idea where to apply now?

I unfortunately got rescinded for getting a D and 3 Cs, and 2 Bs during the 2nd semester(I had no excuse, I just quit trying). I need somewhere to go for ether this fall or spring. I still 5 spots left on my CommonApp(my transcript is uploaded onto there just not with second semester grades) so I could apply to multiple colleges. A community college is out of the question. I’ve looked at the NACAC list but I have not heard of a single school on that list and so I don’t know which ones I should apply too. I don’t mind enrolling in the spring so that should leave me with more options. What would be the top 5 colleges to apply to? I had a 3.9 GPA(dropped to a 3.74 now but I took the hardest curriculum) and a 1660 SAT so I could get into some colleges but I fear that I would get rescinded again to any decent college if they see my 2nd semester grades.

Money isn’t an issue, my original college of choice I would be full pay anyways paying $60,000 a year. I’m from Indiana but I was going to go out of state. I don’t mind if I go out of the country(or continent) either.

What’s your budget? What’s your SAT scores? What’s your home state? Is taking a gap year out of the question?

Do you think you are ready for college and be successful? Why did your grades drop so much?

Did you try to get help with the subjects you had the most trouble with?

If you are full pay anyway, taking some classes at CC and doing well might help you.

Yes I am ready. I just really did not try 2nd semester since I was really focused on my baseball season and practiced until the night so I never did my homework or studied.
No I didn’t try to get any help. I wasn’t really struggling, I just took a lot of AP classes this year so I was just overwhelmed with the work and never did anything.
I don’t want to go to a CC, since I don’t want to restart my CommonApp since that took forever to do.

Are there local universities you could go to? Did you get accepted to any? Which school accepted and then rescinded you?

A CC would probably take an application from you in person.

I agree that a community college is out of the question because your attitude toward higher education is severely lacking and you probably would not do well there at this time.

I think your best course of action is to take a gap year and work at a full time job until you get over your feelings of entitlement which apparently caused you to blow your opportunity at a very expensive, fully-funded college education. You should apply to an appropriate range of schools this coming fall with your complete transcript and your current SAT. It’s possible that the right schools will appreciate your taking a year to mature and overlook your poor performance at the end of senior year.

You may be able to find a college with rolling admissions that is still taking applications this late in the year.

I got accepted by a good amount of colleges. Local universities I got accepted were IU-B,Purdue-West Lafayette, Butler, and DePauw. I ended up choosing University of Rochester where I eventually got rescinded recently.

University of Maine Orono has rolling app. and matches your in-state tuition. It’s kine of like UVM but further north. The similarities are that they are flagship schools and much smaller than other state flagships, almost like large LACs (that have grad schools). Check out U of Wyoming Laramie too. The OOS tuition and expenses are about $30K total. This may fit your budget. Again, about 10K people and a lot to offer. Best of all, they are in very nice places. I haven’t been to Laramie but I’m sure it’s very pretty because: Wyoming. The other two schools I’ve spent a good deal of time in. UVM prob won’t admit this late, but it’s turning into a very popular choice on the East Coast. UMaine Orono is in a town that’s large for Maine; Maine itself is a gorgeous state. You might really enjoy it! Best of luck

Why not start at a community college, do well there, and then transfer to IU-B or Purdue?

If the D grade was in something that is a base level requirement (e.g. the 4th year of English), even a not-very-selective college that has such a requirement may not admit you.

The D was in AP Physics but I already had 4 years of science since I doubled up a year. IU-B is on the NACAC list, though I remember a couple weeks ago I got an email saying they would cancel my admission if I don’t pay my enrollment deposit, so can I reapply again for this fall or spring? IU-B was my safety so I think they might still let me in even with the drop in grades?

@Snorelax I’m not so sure you would be readmitted to the schools which previously extended admission. They will be looking at your final transcript. I’m not sure taking a gap year will help. I know you don’t want to attend a CC but you need to put some academic distance between your senior year transcript and your next college application. If you have no clear reason (medical or mental health issues) which caused the drop in grades, you need to consider the CC option. Further, admission to IU-B has gotten much more difficult over the last five years.

UAH will very likely accept you… they don’t use the Common App, I don’t think…BUT their app is VERY quick and easy…very easy and quick.

What is your major?

Why not contact DePauw and see if they’ll still accept you?

You had a 1660 and got into URoch? What was your M+CR?

How about RIT

“Deadlines require all application materials to be postmarked by the following dates:
Early Decision – December 1st
Regular Decision – February 1st
Following these deadlines, RIT will continue to accept applications on a rolling basis as space allows.”

DePauw is on the space available list. There are several similar liberal arts colleges on the list as well, but please tell us your major to help match.

This live website lists schools that are still accepting applications.

http://www.collegesimply.com/guides/application-deadlines/

399 colleges are still accepting. There are some HORRIBLE schools on that list, so I’ve narrowed the best schools down (where you’ll have a chance):

-Berry College
-Chatham University
-Duquesne University
-Pacific University
-University of Louisville
-West Virginia University
-Xavier University of Louisiana

It seems to me like you have three options

  1. Take a gap year and reapply to more schools that are currently beyond your reach right now because their deadlines have passed. You may also grow and mature greatly during that time.
  2. Go to community college, get good grades, and then be able to transfer to an better institution. This may be necessary if you want to show that you are capable of college level work and to make some distance between you and the poor grades senior year.
  3. Apply to one of the remaining colleges that are still accepting applications, which may or may not meet the expectations that you had in mind for a college you want to go to.
