hey guys.
2 questions…
first: I ended with a 92 overall in my AP ENGLISH III class (I’m in NC, A is ranged from 93 to 100)… but my teacher bump me up to an A… so on my powerschool it shows as 92/A…and my GPA registered the A point value…but will college care about this?
second: i only took 3 APs…in my junior years. but I’ve signed up for 7 APs for my senior year… I know the saying that junior year is most important… but will my effort in senior year affect my application?
You’re wise to continue to take the multiple APs your senior year. It will show your file readers that you’re a serious student and portend to be a solid collegian. Yes, it matters greatly one’s choice of senior classes.
As for your APs, it’s your guidance counselor who reports to colleges whether your academic coursework would be defined as ‘most rigorous’ which is the highest category of rigor in the GC recommendation form of the common application. That decision is based on 1) what is available to students at your school and 2) how many APs did other students take. At a school that offers only 5 AP classes in total and you took all 5, that would be ‘most rigorous.’ At a school that offers 15 AP classes, you took 5, and everyone else took an average of 10, that is not going to get a ‘most rigorous’ rating. Does it matter? Only if you are applying to highly selective schools where you will be compared to your class-mates.
If you are concerned, I suggest you go talk to your GC about this.
Agreed, an A is an A. Be nice to your teacher. Maybe buy him/her an apple.
Your effort will show positively. Colleges like to see improvement and upward trends. The increased rigor (maintaining that you can handle the AP courses and balance your GPA) will be a good thing. Colleges don’t want to see that you slacked off senior year.
