Oh, no need to feels sorry. Today was a nice warm 75! It’ll be in the 50s tomorrow, though. The temperature itself is really putting a damper on the things I need to do tomorrow… :-S

Atlanta is a mess. We knew the snow was coming. The school districts all released students early, so there was a mass exodus of parents onto the roads just as the snow hit. Created gridlock. The Gov has just declared a State of Emergency. My d2 got home just before the chaos, we are all home and staying put for the next 36hrs. Many other poor folks are stuck in traffic in falling temps.

We’re on St. Pete Beach for a while, I think I’ve lost my friends in CT! We went to the beach today, but tomorrow is going to be chilly with showers.

Ugh, what a nightmare Sally. I’m glad your D is home and safe.

Yep, Yep! It’s going to be a rainy day tomorrow!

Cold. And wet. Yay.

Niquii77, pretty soon we are going to start a “We hate Niquii” thread where we will all vent about your nice winter weather! ( LOL, I am just kidding. Enjoy every minute of it. Most of us would love 50’s and rain right now.)

We switched over to Comcast and our installation was today. I could’ve bet you $5 they were going to cancel but the gentlemen showed up. I repeatedly apologized because he had to do the outside installation for almost an hour. He said the cold didn’t really bother him and he actually volunteered to work today as so many people called off.
I was kind of in awe.

That is impressive. And crazy.

A friend in New Orleans told me the whole city has shut down - schools, offices, government. And even hospitals are “essential personnel only” for today and tomorrow. Because there MIGHT be sleet.

OTOH, a cousin in Atlanta took more than 6 hours to get home and it usually takes him 15 minutes!

250+ School closings for tomorrow already (for reference, there were about 800+ plus today when pretty much everyone shut down)

romani, are those closures for the temp or snow? If schools here were closed every time it was super cold this month, nobody would have been to school!

It’s snowing in Florida panhandle region tonight. Pensacola is getting snow now, Florida State University in Tallahassee is closed tomorrow morning because of weather and anticipated icy road conditions.

Temp. No snow in the forecast. I know that partly it’s been because of buses not running (no buses = no school). Other districts that have completely cut buses are closing more quickly because so many are walking. I admit I’m really surprised they’re closing tomorrow.

ETA: The district I live in just closed. Yeesh. I can see the high school closing because we have to walk between buildings for classes, but not the whole district. I foresee a bunch of other districts following quickly.

Schools rarely close here unless it’s a true blizzard, likely a foot or more of snow overnight. Buses are often cancelled but schools remain open. I’ve never agreed with this but it’s always been that way. Too many complaints from parents if they are forced to make alternate arrangements for their kids. I’ve always felt, when my kids were young and now that one of them is a teacher, that if it’s unsafe for the buses to be on the roads, then the teachers shouldn’t be forced to risk driving either.

Always, are you in MN (or the area) by chance? My cousins are from northern-ish Minnesota (not the WAY north but north enough) and they say the same thing you do.

When I was younger, my parents used to keep me home when it was ridiculous out. Especially after my dad’s accident and with my asthma, there was just no way they were going to let me risk it. I’ll probably have the same thoughts with my kids. I’m just not willing to risk it

My cousin is stuck in school. He’s autistic so it’s a big deal. My aunt says hopefully he’s home within 8! hours.

Atlanta is bad.

I’m in Toronto, romani. I used to keep my kids home when the buses were cancelled, even in the years when they walked to school close by. There was never much accomplished at school on those days when half the kids, or more, weren’t there.

update: He’s home! the local police department helped out

Great to hear, Writer!
I agree, always. I don’t know what the schools are trying to prove by making 1/4 of the kids come.

gasps :((

I will try to enjoy every minute of it; although, it’s timing is inconvenient. Imagine if you had to walk around in the rain in office clothes al day. Yeah…that’s my day tomorrow.

I always overlook certain aspects of the hot Florida weather that I dislike. This morning helped me remember the pain in the butt Florida morning are! Humid and hot. I worked up a sweat walking to class this morning around 8 AM! Florida is so unreasonable at times…

I’m not surprised Atlantic had horrid traffic with this weather. Their traffic is always bad.
