I’ve been nominated for biology this year and I’m not sure what to expect for the trying out process. The counselor told me that I would have to first take a test and then go through a local then state level interview. Has anyone else pursed science GHP? How was the experience and what tips can you give to being successful? GHP only applies to students living in Georgia, so this question is probably only applies to a very narrow group of people
I did GHP for German and it was amazing! I can’t really speak for the science interview process but I know there is a FB group for nominees/candidates/alumni and it’s a goldmine for information.
The tips I can give is, don’t try and go in being all smart, scholarly, and “boring”. The main thing during interviews is you really need to demonstrate a passion for the subject (in your case biology), the written test is really the “knowledge” check.
My daughter tried out for GHP Biology. She said it’s not really a “test” but they give you some material to look at, with some choice in what to look at (bio, chem, and something else) like charts or graphs or visuals from a research paper. You look at them for only a few minutes and then during the interview they will ask you about it, and what conclusions you drew from it, what the data means, etc. Otherwise it’s like a normal interview. Her classmate actually got the Biology GHP position, which wound up being a better fit because they dissected things in the summer program, and my daughter hates dissection but the other girl loved it since she wants to be a doctor. Good luck!
Can you give me the link for this facebook page? I can’t to find it
