LOL, with delays and such and so many people hanging out early or in lounges maybe there could be some CC-adjacent meet-ups at the airport.

So now I’m thinking of trying to pack the toys in a checked suitcase as we do not leave for another 10 days and it’s becoming a bit of a pain to try to get this stuff packed up and put in boxes. Hoping maybe by 10 days check bag will be OK.

If it makes you feel better… This past weekend FDIL1 had her bachelorette/girls trip weekend cross country. 15 girls went in all from all different parts of the US. Only 1 was delayed by a few hours on the way out. Not sure about everyone else on the way back, but FDIL1 & FDIL2 made it back with no issues. No reports of lost luggage - and both FDILs has TWO checked suitcases. They were carrying gifts for all the other girls at least!

I’m hoping I can pivot back to checking a bag, but it is the weekend before Thanksgiving that we will be flying
I have my Hilton Head Wardrobe as a few years ago I was 3 days (out of 8) without my suitcases so I spent $300 on swim suits, shorts, and other things tooth brush, sunscreen, etc). Thank you Southwest airlines!
It’s almost time for them to lose my luggage again.

Dh is sitting at Sky Harbor waiting for his one-hour flight to LA, now an hour-and-a-half late. If he’d left after lunch and driven like he initially planned to, he’d be there already.

Well, at least if the checked suitcase full of toys arrives late, it still has a chance of being there in time for the holidays. And if it doesn’t, maybe it will be even more special arriving after the other gifts.
True but if our flight gets screwed up and we want to try to fly standby in another flight, they always ask if we have checked bags and I don’t know if that would keep us from getting to fly standby on another flight. Then again the chances of there being empty seats on the weekend before Thanksgiving looks pretty low.

In my experience, it does prevent standby or even switching to another (confirmed) flight. I even offered to return to the (arriving) airport myself to pick up luggage later but they said no.
On the other hand, my daughter was already in the air when I received a notice that her connecting flight was cancelled, and she’d be put on one that would get her to John Wayne airport hours later after her BF’s graduation had already happened. I got on the phone with a very helpful agent and we figured out she could transfer to an LAX flight but her luggage would NOT make that flight, but that it could be transferred to John Wayne ‘sometime’ later, maybe even the next day. I arranged all this while my daughter was still flying into Denver. I texted her as soon as her plane landed, told her to go immediately to Gate XX, ask for Besty, and tell her your name as she has your new ticket. She was very confused but it all worked out.
Of course her boyfriend’s father had to drive to LAX on a Friday afternoon but it all worked out. And in fact SW airline delivered the luggage to BF house in Orange County.

Even if you decide to ship packages today, there is no guarantee they will get there by Thanksgiving or shortly thereafter. We are waiting for a few items, and have received notification that shipping is delayed.
That may have to do with the recent cargo plane crash and taking many MD-11 planes out of service for a while for inspections. The remaining MD-11 planes are used by cargo airlines FedEx, UPS, and Western Global, so having them out of service may affect package delivery.
