GPA Calcs for a STEM Student

Background:
Aiming for ivies
STEM Major
Mostly AP and College classes

I have a relatively decent GPA 4.5 weighted (5 being highest), but it’s only this way because I got a lot of B’s in middle school French. Will colleges actually factor these grades into admissions or will they essentially not care because it’s French from 6 years ago and I am majoring in STEM, and if the latter will they recalculate my GPA according to just Highschool grades?
Thank you

  1. colleges won’t care about your middle school French grades, because they (ivies) only look at grades in high school
  2. they won’t recalculate your GPA
  3. if you’re majoring in STEM and you took all the AP and/or advanced science and math classes, no college will care if you got a couple of Bs in a foreign language
    Hope that helped.

@hassan0315 How do you know “they won’t recalculate” the GPA ?

OP, I assume that the middle school grade is irrelevant for the purpose of college application.

I just want to be clear and say that the middle school grades DO show up on my transcript so they are going to physically see it, but it sounds like they won’t actually factor it into decisions

Some do; some don’t. And unless they specifically tell you, you won’t know. Just file it under “it is what it is.”

To be clear, just because you are majoring in STEM does not mean that they will disregard grades in non-STEM classes taken in high school - they won’t disregard. However, they will not put much, if any, weight on grades from MS, even if they are HS courses and even if those courses appear on a HS transcript.

Regardless, Ivy League schools shockingly ( ) have been known to accept students with a B that they got in HS. Good luck.
