GPA Calculation/Qualifying For Admission

Hi, I am having some trouble and uncertainty regarding my GPA calculation. The GPA that is listed on my current transcript (as of the end of summer 2006) is 3.15, but that is the weighted academic GPA from freshmen, sophomore, and junior year - my UC GPA is way lower, since my grades dropped significantly in sophomore and junior year (not a good sign, I know). Anyway, so I do not think that I meet the minimum GPA of 3.0. Could someone please help me calculate?

Sophomore year:
(* = weighted according to the UC scale)
English 3/4 H - B/B
Spanish 3/4 - C/C
Algebra II H - C/C
Chemistry 1/2 - D/D
World History 1/2 - B/A

Junior year:
English 5/6 H - C/B
US History 1/2 - C/B
Spanish 5/6 - C/C
Enviro Science AP - C/C
Trig/Precalc - A/A
ROP Office Occupations - A/A (not sure if this counts as an elective?)

Summer after junior year:
Chemistry 1/2 - B/B

^I also have a question about my retaking Chem: does it automatically replaces the D’s I got, in the GPA calculation?

Any way I calculate it, my GPA is not equal to or higher than 3.0. >_< But since I qualify for a fee waiver, I am planning to apply to a few UCs anyway (after I figure out how to go about getting the waiver…). Do I even have a slight chance by applying with the “Admission by Exception” consideration?

Info about that here: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/exception.html

It states to contact the Admissions Offices - what exactly should I talk about, though?

If you read through all that and/or helped me calculate my UC GPA, I thank you very much and appreciate your effort. :)

You could be eligible through examination alone if you average a 690 or above on the three parts of the same SAT-I sitting and the two highest subject tests.

But I doubt you’ll get in with those grades, even to Merced.

My scores are nowhere near spectacular, unfortunately.

Critical reading: 570
Math: 700
Writing: 670

SAT II Math: 690
SAT II Lit: 650

But I should qualify for a fee waiver, so I’m thinking that it wouldn’t hurt to try, anyway? ._. Thank you for your input. :]

If you get a C or higher the second time you take Chem, the retake grades will replace the Ds when UCs calculate your GPA.

I got a D in Pre-Calculus last year, and I think I’ve just about driven the counselors at my school crazy with questions about this. Haha.

If you’re eligible for the UC system at ALL, I’m pretty sure they guarantee you admission to at least one UC school. Which means you’ll at least get into UC Merced if you’re eligible.

My friend told me that freshmen year grades are also used to calculate the GPA…? I haven’t heard that anywhere else, though.

Yeah, I just want to know if I’m eligible at all, because if I am, then I will definitely apply to more campuses, rather than just 4 as waived by the fee waiver. I think I’ll call one of the campuses soon and ask.

Do any of you know anyone who applied under the “Admission by Exception” category, and got accepted?
