Well I just finished my first semester of Freshman year with a 3.3 GPA. My dad had Prostate cancer and that was really hard on me, thankfuly he is nearly completely recovered and totaly cancer free. It’s been an incredibly bad year for my dad health wise, right after he was “cleared” of Prostate Cancer he had Vertigo which scared me and my family nearly half to death. A couple of months later we had another cancer scare, and they told my dad he had a 50-50 chance.
It’s been my dream for awhile now to go to Yale, i’ve worked hard at it, taking the most rigorous course load possible at my middle school, etc.
I have a few “powerful” ECs i believe, I run a Online MMOG business, and a virtual Real Estate business in the game Secondlife(www.secondlife.com) that makes me about $3000 a month
I take Mandarin chinese as well.
i’m just assuming that these will work for me, but my main concern is that this dip in my GPA has killed my chances of getting into Yale, because there are so many other students that haven’t had such a problem… is this the case?
tyvm for any response.

and you are a FRESHMAN…a 3.3 is fine, just keep at at and relax a little

and Yale is not a lock for anyone, even 4.0 from freshman year

nothing is lost…so don’t give up…just keep working hard, have fun and look at schools beyond yale…not that you might not be qualified, but Yale is a tough one for everyone

so again, you still have a great shot, but please look beyond one school…

If you’re as dedicated as you say you are, than I think your gpa will average out to something more Yale-acceptable in a few years, assuming that you maintain 3.8-4.0 gpa, and there are no more future scares. I may be wrong, but this is what I think, what does everyone else think?

and I agree with cgm, broaden your outlook, Yale is incrediblt shaky to everone

What is this secondlife thing?

Second Life is an MMORPG which literally is a “second life”. You apprently have an avatar which you can create to your own choosing and act however you want. I think it’s free? but you have to pay to get a free quirks, and you can own businesses on there and sell stuff. I know recently there was a woman who became a millionaire off of this business.

Otherwise, I honestly don’t think you have to worry too much. I’m glad your father is better. Yale is a reach for anyone, and while it is your freshmen year, just keep improving. I’d suggest some more ECs to round out your app (assuming you do great academically) and I think you’ll be a very strong applicant.

Freshman grades arent considered

…yes they are.

Stop worrying so much, you’re way too young to be on this forum. Go LIVE and LEARN STUFF and pursue your interests to their fullest extent, and you will get into the perfect college for you.

Get a first life! http://www.getafirstlife.com/

Sorry, couldn’t resist

^
hahaha.

Sorry, I figure I’ll try to give a constructive response now.

All you can do now is have your guidance counselor explain the situation in their recommendation. It won’t kill your chances as long as you perform well from now on. However, having a 3.3 freshman year certainly won’t help. I’m glad your dad is better now. Good luck.

thanks for all the input :P
