gpa emphasis?

how important does duke see high school gpa? is it about the same as sat and act or more important?
also will this upward trend look good on my freshman application?
3.75 W (3.5 U) GPA for 10th grade
4.4 W (4.0 U) GPA for 11th grade

Thank you for your advice!

It depends ENTIRELY on the difficulty of your curriculum. For instance, a 3.7 UW with allllll APs looks much better than a 3.8 UW with very few APs. It’s all relative!

But yes, any upward trend is good! Keep it up through 1st semester of senior year, because they consider that too (for RD at least)!

i agree with hookem. in general though, gpa > everything.

It is extremely important. If you have a good GPA that is relatively like the other competitive applications (like 3.8-4.0). Then GPA doesn’t matter as much as EC’s because they want to see someone stand out. However, if your grade isn’t that good, then it become a factor in deciding if your are accepted in not. Also the rigor of the classes plays into part, the harder the classes but a little bit lower in GPA (like 3.7) would actually be better than no hard classes and a 4.0.
