I was recently on Alpha Phi’s website for the school I’m going to and it says there is a minimum GPA requirement of a 3.0.
I have a 2.8 CUM because of a 2.1 freshman year, but I’ve had above a 3.0 during my junior and senior years.
I have a really extensive resume and strong ACT score but I highly doubt they look at that … lol
Will I not get into the sorority? Can I report my senior year GPA?
I would talk to sisters during recruitment. You’ll get into a sorority, I’m sure. I was Vice President of my Fraternity, and we had ways to working with recruits who had poor GPAs
How many sororities are at your school? How popular is Greek life? How competitive is recruitment?
Contact your school’s Panhellenic council and see if there is any way to explain your academic situation to the chapters. Otherwise, yes, you do need to be prepared to be cut from certain chapters especially after the first round. It’s just the nature of the system. Sororities want to make sure their new members are prepared for the academic rigor of college.
However, they WILL look at your resume and you will talk about what you did in high school extensively during recruitment! That is a major selling point for you and should help mitigate GPA issues if you are also friendly and engaging during recruitment. If Greek life at your school is competitive or you are going to school in a part of the country where Greek life is big, you NEED to secure recommendations for every chapter. That will help your chances too.
Do NOT address your GPA during recruitment. The individual sisters you talk to are not the ones that decide whether you get a bid so it doesn’t matter, and you don’t want to focus on the negative during recruitment! They aren’t getting to know your GPA, they’re getting to know you! So think positive and get excited about Greek life! I love my sisters and I hope you find yours this fall! Feel free to PM me if you have more questions.
Well, if the sorority has a minimum GPA requirement, it doesn’t matter how much the sisters like you - you can’t get into the sorority. And they will check - Greek organizations are very orderly because of how much scrutiny they face, so generally speaking national will make sure everything is in order. If the requirement is cumulative GPA, then no, you cannot report your senior year GPA. LIkely they will ask for a high school transcript to verify.
However, different sororities may have different GPA requirements, so that’s not to say that you shouldn’t rush at all. Some houses may only require a 2.75 or a 2.5. And they do look at your resume and ACT scores, so those might mitigate your GPA at houses that don’t have a 3.0 requirement.
