GPA for state school for good job

3.0 good enough to get job around 50kish in econ/finance nowadays?

It depends what you mean by “good job”. Will you be working on wall street? Chances are slim and none and slim just… Well, never say never.

if you have a 3.2 you could interview for operations jobs at BBs although I dunno if you could call that “good” lol. 50K+, yes, but exit opps are crap.

you know, when you look at starting salary, they give the median, etc…

Any place where I can get the stats? like, 10% make 80k, etc?

I guess I’ll have around a 3.5, and prob get my masters in finance or accountacny

ops managers dont make 50 k a year, more like 90.

operations manager? prob takes years to get there

state school? you’re going to need a pretty darn good gpa. my opinion is in the 3.7+ range.

and i’m assuming it’s not a target state school such as cal, umich, ucla, or uva.

A 3.0 would be OK. A 3.25 would be better. You don’t need to work in IB to start at $50K. The average finance major from Wisconsin this year will start at over $50K plus bonus and only about 25% of them are in IB. Many are in the financial areas of corporations, commercial banks, mutual funds, etc.

Finance, Investment & Banking 81 Acceptances Reported
Base Salary Range: $27,000.00 - $75,000.00
Average Base: $50,966.23
Average Bonus: $5,590.91 (71.43% Reported)
Average Relocation: $6,560.00 (19.48% Reported)
Average Other Guaranteed Comp: $8,900.00 (7.79% Reported

From my experience in the MC and IB firms, I would suggest that 3.5+ is bare minimum, if you are considering the top 3 MC and top 5 IB firms. For ex. Mck very clearly indicates the range to be 3.5 to 4.0. However, there are a number of very good companies in the financial and retail banking sectors, who would not be very rigid, and for their local offices recruit from the flag-ship state universities, with GPA as low as 3.25. Exceptions could be there, esp. for students who have demonstrated a very high degree of leadership skills in activities beyond the class room. The salary range in these firms, usually, is 45k ~ 50k.

For most government job posting, you need at least a 3.0 plus some honors. For Big 4 consulting, you are talking about a minimum of 3.4 and probably 3.5 or better plus strong interviewing skills. I can’t tell you about investment banking since I never applied for that.

im still in CC, so i dont know to much, but i dont think 3.0 will cut it for what you want
