How much will the fact that I am Mexican play into my chances for admission?? I am also from Michigan…so hopefully a minority in two aspects.

I have a 29 ACT score (sorry, I am midwestern, I have no idea how that converts to SAT), which I will be taking again, hopefully for a 30 or 31 (out of 36)

My bad part is a 3.319 GPA. I have shown incredibly improvement (4.3 last semester), but the formula is stupid and won’t increase it very much. I am taking the hardest classes possible

I also have insane EC’s, president of…everything, leadership, commitment, etc.
I am sure I will get really good Rec’s, and my essays will also be of high quality.

Unfortunatly, my schedule next year is so packed, and due to that and financial issues, there is absolutley NO WAY that I can go to visit the campus, although I was there last year helping a friend of a friend move in (so it wasn’t registered). How else can I show them how incredibly interested I am?

I love bucknell, and I think I have a lot to offer it. Chances??

thank you so much, your replies will make my day.

To show interest, I e-mailed them a lot and asked them questions. They usually have student representaties relpy back, and they’re pretty friendly. Just wondering, how does being from Michigan make you a minority? The Mexican background should definitely help as Bucknell is not the most diverse college.
Go for it. I wouldn’t say that you are a sure-fire bet but you have a really good shot, especially if you can bring up your ACT and GPA. If you are financially restriced I would not suggest early decision. Hope I helped!

Don’t beat yourself over the 29 in the ACT. Thats actually a good score to apply to Bucknell with…if you can get it up it would be awesome but don’t be too hard on yourself. Also, yes Bucknell is not as diverse as other schools but we are working very hard to be so yes, the mexican factor can play a role but not a very large one. Also, not many people realize it but Bucknell does not strictly look at numbers. I mean yeah they look at it but they love well rounded individuals and if you do have amazing recs, a great essay (the essay is a very very important component) and are in ecs I cannot see why you would not be a competitive applicant. Bucknell will usually accept those who have a better essay and personality aka clubs and recs over those that have a cliche essay and maybe one club but has a higher number score (ACT/SATs). Also, grades in high school are a factor so don’t always just base decisions off of that 29. And the Michigan part can also play a role because admissions is always trying to get a more demo. diverse population here and I don’t think we have many students from Michigan.
To show interest…emailing questions to askabison@bucknell.edu, calling the admissions counselor in charge of your area and asking them application questions, attending college fairs that is close to you that Bucknell is at, requesting information either through the website or by filling out those request info cards from college guides. I work in admissions so I always work with contacts and all these are always recorded.
Sorry the reply is sooo long…

I don’t even go to Bucknell but you are one useful Bison. I like your responses, you know the facts and you provide some good observations. Thanks
