Hi, i got into Umich a week ago. And I’m going into business so the competition is going to be tough when I apply after 2 years. And if I dont get in, I’ll be stuck b/c i dont want to major in econ. Would it be better for me to go to nyu, usc, uiuc, washu where the business school isnt as great, (but still good) but i’m garunteed in the business program??

Also I was wondering how much on average your gpa would change from high school to college. Are the honors classes weighted (A=5.0 B=4.0) etc? I have a 4.1 (weighted) at my high school which is one of the best public high schools in the US. So how much is my gpa expected to decrease in college, or will it stay about the same as long as I just work as hard. Any comments from current students would be greatly appreciated!

Most studies show that your h.s. GPA and the rigor of your courseload are the greatest predictor of success in college. So, you should do well in college. That being said, a lot of freshmen party a bit too much, let their work slide, have trouble adjusting, or take the wrong classes. In other words, it’s impossible to predict.
Also, FYI, U-M bases admission to the B-School on more than just GPA. They are also looking for leadership and community service - in college.
I think the question you have to answer is how much risk are you willing to take and how will you feel if you gamble and lose?

im facing the same problem as you are…ive got into IUB, UIUC too…IUB offered me $30,000 schol. to be used over 8 semesters…plus mich fees are too high…cant make a decision !!!

heh, Im in the exact same situation as you mishra. Although I havent found out whether or not Im in at UM. Im also debating between UIUC and IUB. IUB was a last second backup school for me, but after receiving the 30k scholarship, direct admit into Kelley and the honors college, Im leaning toward them over UIUC.
