GPA Questions

Will a college look at me more favorably if my junior average is higher than my freshman and sophomore averages.(My school doesnt do GPA)
Freshman: 88.4
Sophomore:88.0
Junior: 93.6

Comes out to a 90.0 which is a ~3.6

And also freshman and sophomore averages were brought down by English, Religion and social studies, I’m looking to go to college for engineering and my math and science grades all three years are the best two(3 year math like a 94, 3 year science is like 93)
Would college look at the high math and science grades and be please or would they look at my grades holistically and not care that math and science are the best?

Since I’m not a dean of admissions, I can’t say for sure. I would think that colleges would look at you more favorably if you can improve your grades as much as you can, so of course raising your grades will help you. I think colleges will notice that you have better grades in math and science, and that can be bolstered if you have a recommendation from a math or science teacher. If you’re going to take not just math and science courses, then your grades in other subjects will matter, because they want you to be okay with taking courses in several fields, even if you plan to major in engineering.

Colleges like to see improvement, so just make sure that you keep around a 93 average the beginning of senior year. My guess is that colleges will look at your individual grades, but the ones outside your major will matter too. A high SAT/SAT II in math and science will definitely highlight that for you.

I don’t know about your school, but at the schools in my area a 90 avg would be a 3.75 (A-), which is very competitive. The schools in my area calculate GPA like this:
[97+ = 4.0
[92.5 - 97) = 4.0
[89.5 - 92.5) = 3.75
[86.5 - 92.5) = 3.5

You get the idea. You’re really not doing to badly at all.
