I have a 3.78 unweighted GPA right now. I’ve been told by a lot of people that no matter how great my other stuff is, my 3.78 GPA will prevent me from going anywhere other than a state school. Is this true? If so, I might as well not try as hard anymore…

That is total rubbish! My sons good friends brother went to Dartmouth for lacrosse with a low 3.0ish and very average scores, of course he was a good player but he only had to get a 25 on the ACT. A 3.78 is quite respectable. Good luck and do not be discouraged, there are pletny of schools that I am sure would love to have you!

I have to agree with kwalker203. Not everything is dependent on your GPA, furthermore, an unweighted 3.78 is pretty high. You should continue to work your hardest.

Keep in mind that there are many really great state schools out there and that you should keep your options open.
