GPA vs Individual Grades (URGENT!!!!!!)

which one is more importent

and what if you have some really bad grades but still a strong GPA

how would you still have a strong gpa with bad grades? though i think you might be asking about the range of grades, in which case i think it’s a lot better to have relatively constant grades rather than some Cs and Ds with a As bringing it up to a B average; i’m guessing it would be better to have all Bs.

It can depend on what subject(s) those bad grades were in, and how many of them there are.

If you have a consistent pattern of good grades in one subject area, but bad ones in another you need to sit down with your guidance counselor and talk about what that could mean. One possibility would be that you have an un-diagnosed learning disability that is impeding your ability to perform the way you really are capable of in those classes.

okay both of you didn’t answer the question…it is possible to have a good gpa with some bad grades. and what if the bad grades in math, and one bad grade in science and english but very strong in every other area

There is no simple answer for this question. It depends on the student. It depends on the high school. It depends on the college. It depends on the subject. It depends on the year in high school.

You need to make an appointment with your guidance counselor so that you can sit down and talk about what YOUR grades mean for the colleges and universities that are on YOUR list.

GPA is the average of your grades. If you have bad grades, it will bring down your average.
Remember colleges don’t see individual assignment grades, if that’s what you’re talking about. All they see is your semester and final averages. And those both factor into your GPA.

GPA matters, but if one were to compare two GPAs, the one with consistently low grades only in one area would be preferable to the one with scattered low grades. I, for example, had B’s in Chem and only Chem, and my intended major is in the humanities. I think I was in a lot better shape than those with scattered B’s.

Grades (on the transcript) are more important than GPA, although grades somewhat influence GPA.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE INDIVIDUAL BAD GRADES AND STILL A SOLID GPA!!!

i am talking about having some bad grades, including lower than b’s, and still have a gpa that is good

but will this matter to colleges

i mean on this site for things like “chance me” people only put their gpa, some will colleges overlook this

Your question just doesn’t make sense. GPA isn’t some subjective opinion someone makes about your grades. GPA is a math formula. Every bad grades brings it down.

Can you have a few C’s and still get a good GPA? Probably. They will bring your GPA down. But with enough good grades, it balances out. If you have a lot of C’s, no, you will not have a solid GPA.

Colleges will not “overlook” GPA. GPA is important. However, they don’t just simply look at your GPA and make a determination about you at a students. They investigate your GPA much further. They will look at rank, to understand how your GPA compares to those in your school. They will look at the rigor of classes to took, to see if those C’s were made in very difficult courses or in easy courses. They will look at each class individually, to see if you had similar grades across the board, or if you did poorly freshman year and improved since then, or if you did poorly in math and did will in other subjects.

Your grades matter. At the end of the day, grades are the best predictor of how well you will preform in college.

Maybe if you were most specific about what you wanted to know, we could help more. Your question is just pretty vague.
