if my application is due before the end of the quarter does that mean the grad school doesn’t see that quarter?

So if I’m in the quarter system and the application was due in the middle of winter quarter, the grad school would only see my first three years and fourth year fall quarter?

So unless I do really bad, my grades for winter and spring don’t matter (as much atleast) or do they have waitlists?

Thanks

Yes… they get whatever is available on your official transcript when you have it sent and make the decision based on that. Then in most cases, you’ll have to have your post-graduation transcript sent to whatever program you end up choosing.

They do have wait-lists, but you’ll never know if you’re on one. For example, a program may make 10 offers for 4 spots, knowing from experience that their matriculation rate is 40%. After they’ve heard back from all 10, if there are spots still open, they may start calling candidate 11, 12, etc.

And yes, sometimes this overbooking bites a department on the *ss. A couple years ago a department here at Penn got 100% acceptance and had to really scramble to fund them all.
