Grad Gift - DS Girlfriend

My son’s girlfriend is graduating from college in a few weeks. They have been dating for over a year, but I’ve only met her a couple of times so I don’t really know her well. I’d like to get her a graduation gift, but not really sure what. Any ideas? I’d like to keep it to around $100 or less. BTW, she will be going to law school next year.
Thanks for any help :)

Earrings, or a nice portfolio/briefcase.

Leather portfolio: https://www.google.com/search?q=leather+portfolio&hl=en&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=DU-JUcK8O8WLqgGo14DYBw&sqi=2&ved=0CG0QsAQ&biw=1280&bih=653</a></p>

Lots of different price ranges.

I have been thinking about this, too, though in my case GF is graduating from law school. Her parents are giving her the traditional briefcase. I am thinking about a strand of pearls as a timeless jewelry choice that would be appropriate for work. Pearl earrings would fit your budget; Ross-Simons has a good selection at reasonable prices.

What about a beautiful pen?

I would head to a local jeweler and pick out some classic jewelry - silver is relatively inexpensive, but nice. A pendant & earnings in her birthstone could be a hit.

I would nix the portfolio idea, as ipad are replacing them.

Coach iPad sleeve?

coach ipad sleeve is nice. I would stay away from handbag, briefcase because unless you know exactly what she likes, it may never be used. What about a fashionable scarf?

Second a nice scarf.

We were in the same situation a year ago. S did say she was not into jewelry or accessories. She was going to grad school so we got her a sweatshirt from that school, which she loved. Not very glamorous, but she liked it. She is still tough to buy for.

In addition to the above, consider getting her a nice, sturdy laptop case. Most law students type their class notes, and need something more substantial than an iPad.

Portfolios will be used as long as someone wants to carry around a hard copy of a resume and a writing sample. Also, it just looks bad to take notes on an iPad during an interview or in some meetings. Pair the portfolio with a nice pen - perhaps one from the school that she’s graduating from.

I like the idea of a strand of pearls and matching earrings.

Pearls for $100?

I just graduated and my partner’s parents gave me $100 cash and a very heart felt card . It was wonderful, perfect and I’m very grateful. I’m very grateful that they didn’t give me physical stuff because A) they don’t really know what I already have and B) we’re moving soon for grad school and we’re desperately trying to get rid of stuff.

Just throwing out another possibly.

I would ask your son for suggestions if you don’t know her well.

I second asking your son for ideas - it’s just too much of a shot in the dark without knowing the person.

For example, I am not into brands at all, so I wouldn’t be really interested in anything from Coach (I would be thankful for the thought, but it’s not something I would want or pick out for myself). Also, I am an Android person all the way, so it would be at least good to confirm she even likes or uses Apple products.

I don’t use make up, but I do enjoy jewlery, and I would love a nice fountain pen, simply because I like pens. But a lot of traditional ‘girl’ gifts would not be for me.

A cute wallet if you know her taste.

This is $125.
Very fashionable with young women (and older women too lol)

<<pearls for="" $100?="">>
Ross-Simons sells Mikimoto as well as more affordable pearl studs.</pearls>

I like the pen idea as GF is a practical sort. Thanks, Moonchild.

You could also get her a business card case for her purse. I have an adorable one that I got at the Kate Spade outlet for $27 or so. (It looks sort of like this: [credit card wallets - kate spade tudor city holly](http://www.katespade.com/womens-wallets/credit-card-wallets/kate-spade-tudor-city-holly-1/PWRU2290-4,en_US,pd.html) )

And yes, you can get some pearl jewelry for $100 - especially if you shop the sales.

I would stay away from an ipad case, they change so quickly. I would definitely ask your son to see if she would like earrings, something practical, etc. I thought of the Longchamp bag earlier. If it’s her style, I think it’s a great idea.

Glad I could help. I gave a beautiful pen to my sons’s fiance three years ago when she graduated from college, (she wasn’t his fiance at that point), and it seemed to be well received.
