I ordered the typical food for our Grad party and I went with the tried and true for our area - chicken, pasta, etc. I will also have cake, cookies and a nacho bar. I think I should probably have a few other snacks for the tables but I can’t think what will hold up for a few hours in the summer. The humidity destroys chips and pretzels, chocolate melts, etc.
Of course I’d love to think of something really unique for our party in terms of centerpieces or food, but fear that it will be same old, same old - because that’s what works!
What are you all doing?
Taking a trip in lieu of a graduation party for D2! - woohoo so happy to not have to plan a big party!!!
Best of luck with your party! Does your graduating child have an extracurricular that you could theme a centerpiece around (even food)?? Is the party outside???
Some ideas:
- wrapped mints or hard candy. Tootsie pops (can so see kids enjoying these while sitting at the tables)
- fruit kabobs - buy the short skewers and put a few pieces on each.
- twizzlers in a mason jar with ribbon around the jar (especially if a school color is red!)
- Skinnypop popcorn or chex mix - might also get stale but it will probably get eaten fast!
- mixed nuts
veggie crudite with various dips - not too original but you can go plain or fancy depending on how exotic you go with the veggies you use and the dips you choose.
Fruit platters w/ dip.
Look at pinterest for presentation ideas - you can find some nice ideas that are less run of the mill.
Both are good for those watching what they eat, vegetarians/vegans.
Caprese skewers are always a hit as are shrimp cocktail or shrimp w/ remoulade.

We got chips and the like. There were hungry 17 and 18 year olds. The food didn’t last long enough to get soggy.
Another item I often serve that is well received are the thai or vietnamese style fresh spring rolls with peanut and hoisin dipping sauces.
Something like this, but use tootsie pops/blow pops instead of cake pops:

I got many great ideas on my grad party menu thread…http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1772391-grad-party-menu.html#latest
I love the rootbeer keg idea so much. Would have never thought if it on my own!
So weird, those links in post #5 did not appear as photos on my page!!! Sorry!
No need to be sorry - it is not you, it is CC! Links that contain certain embedded image files will self-insert as images automatically. Why haven’t CC programming gurus figure out a way to block this?
^We’ve asked, more than once!
Big! bowls of M&M’s or Skittles–can put little cups like cupcake cups out or just a spoon. Always a hit.
Big! bowls of mixed candy bars.
The Big! means they can take as much as they want…
I use to put platters of grilled tofu out and that was the number one item that dissappeared.
Even at D’s theater potlucks and so on. Different and delicious. Good at room temp. Can add a peanut or other sauce or not.
M and M’s won’t hold up in the summer heat OP mentions. But are delicious in inside air conditioning!
