Grad program after 2 years work?

I got my CS degree from Cambridge last July and went back to my home country (Singapore) because of my scholarship requirements, but now if I want a graduate program in CMU, what’s my chances? I’ve been working since a couple of months after graduation. If I want to apply for Fall 2014 (it’s too late for 2013), who should I approach for my LOR, my Cambridge professors and/or my employer?

I didn’t really get great results for my degree: I was almost exactly middle of the class - one class position short of a 2nd class upper. What’s the GPA equivalent of this situation?

BTW, do Singaporeans need a TOEFL at all? I speak Chinese at home, but almost all of my formal education is in English.

(Sorry for so many questions in a single post, and happy thanksgiving!)

As someone who took a couple years off and is applying for Fall 2013, if your current work could be applied to your graduate degree, I will encourage you to get at least one LOR from your employer, and if you can get some from Cambridge, that will be helpful as well (someone who can comment on your academic abilities).

I’m not sure what a good GPA equivalent would be, but I think there are websites you can look at for that sort of stuff. Or you could look for info on your program’s website. As far as taking the TOEFL… a friend of mine is from outside the US, attended an American University in that country, and still needed to take the TOEFL (he passed with flying colors) to attend schools in the US. Again, I’d ask the school in which you’re interested in applying.
