Grad School Questions

Hey all,
I’m currently an undergrad freshman at Knox college. I know what my interests are (the psychology of neuroscience) but they don’t allow declaring a major until junior year.
That being said, I want to know what I should do these four years to get into a good grad school; additionally I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions as to what schools I should apply to (aside from big names like UPenn, Yale, etc… I know they have good programs)

Thanks in advance!

Get the best GPA you can. Pursue undergraduate research opportunities with your professors and look at participating in an REU.

It’s way, way too early to think about where you’re going to apply. Part of that decision is going to be based on what professors are researching in your area of interest, and as you aren’t at a point where you know your research interests, you don’t know that yet.

Okay, your second point is totally understandable.
As for your first point, I know GPA is the most important thing for me as of right now given I’m a first-year, I just want to know what kinds of things I’m going to need to have on my radar to prepare for. Should I look for research opportunities within my school, or elsewhere? Those sorts of things.

Do you have an academic advisor in your area of interest? These are exactly the types of questions you should ask him or her. They will know of specific programs or opportunities on campus and will be very knowledgeable about grad programs too.
If you don’t have a relevant advisor, then talk to a professor or email the department head and ask to talk to him or her. That’s what those people are there for - to help you achieve your goals. Take advantage of their expertise!
