As people, we are all unique. No two individuals are the same, and neither do they have the same way of accomplishing tasks. Unnecessarily forcing others to follow certain procedures and certain methods of doing things can often hinder their true potential and not allow them to work upto their full capacity. What may be the best way for one person to accomplish a task, may be the least efficient way for another. In fact, by allowing greater freedom to individuals to go about their business, only then is genius discovered. Sherlock Holmes is a prime example of his statement. His methods of solving crimes can hardly be called conventional and to call them strange would also be an understatement. His contemporaries have thought he was borderline insane at times but the results which his methods produced cannot be denied. Had he been denied the freedom with which he normally handles cases, he would definitely not be able to achieve the same degree if success. When people are taught to do things only in certain ways, it can also prevent them from discovering better ways to do things. For a very long time, athletes participating in the high jump event only jumped a certain way everytime, facing forwards. However, at one particular Olympics, one bright athlete had the idea to try jumping over in a different way: backwards. He went on to win the gold at that Olympics and his new method of jumping revolutionized the whole sport. Never again did athletes jump forward. If this athlete had been convinced that he should only approach his jump in the conventional way and had been discouraged by his coach or by others from trying something new, the sport of high jump might have looked completely different today. Only by allowing people the freedom to go about their work the way they choose can we progress further. True genius flourishes under intellectual freedom as demonstrated by the fictional character Sherlock Holmes. More efficient methods of doing the same task can also be discovered if we let people go about their own way as is exemplified by the athlete who revolutionized the sport if high jump. Restricting people to the ways and methods of the people before them is counter-productive and not inductive to progress. People can only reach behind their limits and achieve more if they are allowed to do things their own way.

Please ignore the lack of spacing in the essay. I copy-pasted it from the online practice SAT on collegeboard.com. It got a 10 from its e-rather, but I doubt that score would apply if a real person had corrected it.
