Does anyone have any experience in how grades are distributed at Exeter and other schools?
Grading scales? Report cards distributed to parents? GPA spreads? I can interpret your question in several ways. My child isn’t at Exeter, but if you clarify I can try to answer your question.
Heartburner, the schools often publish a “school profile” for visiting college reps. It’s usually found somewhere on the college counseling pages.
Here’s Exeter’s: http://www.exeter.edu/documents/2015_Profile_for_Colleges_(Web).pdf.
Here’s Peddie’s: http://www.peddie.org/ftpimages/34/download/College_Profile_2013[3].pdf
Wow, I would call that grade inflation at Peddie based on grade distribution. Yet, it doesn’t seem to mesh with GPA distribution. Are all the kids lopsided or am I missing something?
I don’t see anything about average grades on Exeter’s profile.
Can you explain what you mean by grade inflation? I’m just curious because at some schools, many or most kids are very bright and driven, and the classes are advanced, so I wouldn’t expect to see a bell shaped curve.
Some schools are known for stringent grading. So when applying to colleges they generally take this into account. Note that the academic index (as used by Ivys) have a small adjustment that can be made for caliber of school. But this is generally not a huge factor.
