Developing an opinion contrary to the accepted ideals of a time period is always difficult. However, it is vital that we develop our own judgement in order to distinguish right from wrong. In the past, the intrepid Mahatma Gandhi stood up to British rule. Prior to his movement, the Britishers influence had been seen as unavoidable and interminable. Gandhi’s development of an “Indian Conscience” helped breaking this mentality. In present times, the genocides of the Jewish people during the Holocaust was largely overlooked by myriad countries during the time period. However, the brave few managed to stand up to the Nazi’s. Thus, through Mahatma Gandhi and the brave saviors of the Holocaust, we can see the benefit of developing judgement.
During the twentieth century, India was under the tyrannical rule of the Britishers. Cruelty and punishment had been accepted as commonplace for rebellious Indians. Therefore, the rebellions in India were quashed and the culture of freedom died. However, Mahatma Gandhi refused to quietly be tormented under the autocratic rule of the Britishers. He worked to develop a mindset called the "Indian Conscience by showing the people that freedom and independence were innate rights. He helped Indians determine right from wrong. As a result, he was able to lead one of the largest peaceful uprisings in history. He also managed to inspire the Indian government, which had relied on the input of British viceroys, to be autonomous. In short, Gandhi inspired the people to be autonomous and peaceful by helping them to determine right from wrong.
During World War II, the massive genocide of Jewish and other ethnic groups resulted in the deaths of nearly ten million deaths of Jewish and other races. The world, despite knowing this bestiality, refused to help the Jews. For example, when the United States received a plea to bomb the Nazi’s killing chambers, they refused to do so due to monetary costs and their need for manpower. Clearly, America and the other countries lack of empathy and judgement proved to be deleterious by the end of the war. All in all, following the example set by the rest of the world resulted in a burden on the consciousnesses of America.
Should we always develop our own guidelines for conciseness? Mahatma Gandhi’s movement has shown us the power behind doing so. America during the Holocaust has shown us the consequence of not doing so. In conclusion, as time continues we should all develop our own moral guidelines for justice and injustice.

The thesis is hard to determine. It reads more like a history lesson than a persuasive essay. It is long and you use sat words( if somewhat inappropriately at times) so you may sneak away with 8-10. If the reader is nit-picking, it may be lower.
