Assignment: Do you agree that, in order to develop creativity, children need time to be idle and quiet?
An idle mind leads to a lazy mind – and nothing good ever comes from being lazy! I feel that creativity flourishes when the child feels inspired and inspiration definitely doesnt come from an indolent mind. Afreen Juhad, an extraordinary Indian painter of the 21st century, and myself, (hopefully) an artist in the making, clearly prove my point.

From the age of 10, Juhad was adept with the brush. He was always painting pictures of scenes from the books he read or places he visited. He soon came to become a world famous artist. He is renowned for his interpretations of characters from literature. It is clear from this creativity budded from an imagination derived from numerous novels that he loved to read. Had his mind been idle, had he not read those books that inspired him, had he not imagined those characters, he most probably wouldnt be the artist he is today.

Being a budding artist myself, I have noticed that during the summer vacation, when school is out with plenty of time to while away the mind slows down to relax. It is during this time that my artistic productivity is at its nadir. The quality and quantity of my work deteriorates immensely because there is nothing to stir the creativity. The mind becomes stagnant.

In conclusion, I feel it is necessary to have an active mind to ensure that imagination is aroused and creativity blossoms.
