Grade trend

Just wondering, which one of these is the best.

4.0 3.9 3.6 for a 3.75 gpa
3.0 3.6 3.9 for a 3.5 gpa
3.3 3.6 3.8 for a 3.6 gpa

For Michigan, how important would these grade trends be and which of these would be the best?
Also these are not mathematical averages, people can take different amount of classes every year so these are roughly the gpas people may get.

Depends on the rigor of the courses in which you got those grades, and the standardized scores that support them. They do, however, like an upward gpa trend. They look closely at the grades in the courses that support your desired program. In Engineering, for example, they would like to see strong math and science grades.

Uhh this is hard lol. The big downward trend on the 3.75 GPA is just asking for a deferral, but the other GPA’s are kinda low!

definitely either the 3.5 or 3.6, but the amount of upwards trend is probably irrelevant. If you really get down to it, the ability to get a 3.3 naturally before you start caring and working hard might prove you to be more naturally gifted than someone who started with a 3.0 and then worked their butt off to get a 3.9 Jr year, but i’m not sure if everyone would necessarily agree, or if they even look into it this deeply. Just my opinion.

I had a 3.75, 4.0, 4.0 for a 3.91 GPA and got accepted

These are all probably kind of equal. None are very good, unless the 3.75 took really hard classes junior year, then I would say the 3.75.

Curious: Why do you ask this question?

I agree with SamIAm020792, you need to have a strong, rigorous course load.

Well just an FYI (Don’t judge me…)
I go: 3.0, 3.0, 2.6, 3.4, 3.8, 3.8
Sooooooooooooooooooooo ya.

my grade trend was negative, that’s all im gonna say lol. i still got in.

I’d go with 2 and 3.

My grade trend was pretty much constant over my hs years

mine was wayyy negative. all As freshmen year, 3 Bs sophomore year, all As and one C and one B junior year … and then mostly Bs senior year. i’m oos and still got in, so maybe grade trend isn’t all that important?

I do think the rigor of the courses each year makes a difference, but I can also say that my son was almost exactly trended like the last (3.3 up to a 3.93 sr. year, with a 3.9 showing in jr. year) and he got in despite the cumulative being 3.57 when he applied (and 3.67 when he graduated.) In his case, he was learning to master a learning disability, but the positive trend made a difference when his GPA was “lower” than the norm for U of M.

I haven’t posted on this forum in a long time.

Upward trends are very important to Michigan. I would say the top trend is only good if the person took rigorous courses. I would say the bottom two trends stand out. Michigan loves to see improvement regardless of how low the overall GPA may be.

I wonder what LSA’s acceptance rate will be for the class of 2014. It was 53.5% for the class of 2013.

Well, let’s put it this way…my GPAs looked like this: 3.1, 3.1, 3.9 for a 3.4. I was accepted. I know of people who have had steady 3.6s at my school who were deferred. So they do like the trend an awful lot. Both of us had strong course loads
