Grades at Lehigh

I just found out that I got a guarantee transfer at Cornell for the fall 2009 as long as I maintain a 3.5 with no lower than a B in any of these classes (Calc 1 and 2, Chem 1 and 2, Bio 1 and 2, and two writing classes)… I’m majoring in Biology…at any other college. So, I was wondering if grades at Lehigh are inflated/deflated and is it possible to complete the priormentioned task at Lehigh? I love Lehigh, don’t get me wrong, but Cornell is really where I want to be (deferred ED). I’m considering going to an easier school but at the same time, I don’t want to go to a school solely to transfer to Cornell…and Lehigh would be my second choice. Thanks!

Lehigh is just as tough at grading as Cornell; particularly in the sciences.

If you stay at Lehigh you’ll have a more personalized academic experience than Cornell. As a parent, the sense I get from Lehigh is that professors take it personally if their students are not doing well. Because of the larger scale of Cornell, finding that type of personalized commitment, while there, is harder to come by. I say this as a Cornell alumnus.

On the other hand, because of its scale, Cornell gives you the opportunity to study just about anything. For example, if you want to take an elective in…say [food sciences](http://www.foodscience.cornell.edu/) you can do so. You’ll find other nuggets like this throughout the whole University.

I didn’t know about Lehigh at the time I went to Cornell, but if I did, it would have made for a very, very tough decision.

Take a look at the some of the online bio-science videos Lehigh makes available to get a sense of the quality/difficulty of the classes there:

[Lehigh University’s Bioscience in the 21st Century](Lehigh University's Bioscience in the 21st Century)

Their grades in the sciences are not inflated, and Cornell knows this.

I would chance it at Lehigh. If you were at Cornell, you would likely be working hard for high grades–I’m assuming you are going for an advanced degree after the BS in Bio. Work just as hard at Lehigh, and see how you like it.
