Grades

How difficult is it to get a 3.9+ GPA as compared to say, Berkeley?

my impression is that it is MUCH MUCH easier. berkeley is infamous for its competition; stanford, for its grade inflation. most profs at berkeley, especially in the popular fields like business and pre-med, grade strictly according to the bell curve - which is not a good thing. this means that, for one of the entry level courses required for application to the Haas business school - which is normally very easy - getting 90% on a test might result in a low B or C grade because so many people did better than you that you are forced to the bottom of the grade spectrum to fit the bell curve. stanford - this + weeding happens a lot less. it’s much harder to get a C at stanford than at berkeley, although getting an A here is also hard.

grad schools do keep this in mind tho, when looking at your GPA…

Getting a 3.9+ GPA at Stanford is rather difficult. Do you need it for a scholarship? Or thinking about grad school? I imagine in certain fields it is more difficult than in others.
