Grading Scale at school

Say that a school has a normal grading scale so the scale is a 4.0. Since there are courses that are weighted at the school, would the scale be 4.0 or 5.0?

There sometimes seems to be more weighting methods used than there are high schools. What the scale is really depends on weighting method used. If a school has a 4 point scale, it may add a point for honors and AP, for just AP, for a limited number of honors and AP. other possibilities, thus giving those courses allowed a potential of 5 maximum. However, others may only add 1/2 point, some may add no more than .1, many methods exist. Moreover, they may weight for an A, B, or C grade, or only for A or B.

At many, what you suspect is true, an A in a weighted class becomes a 5 if 4 is highest for non-weighted grades, but it really depends on school. The variety of weighting methods is why many colleges simply ignore the particular method used by a high school and determine grades to be relied on by using their own weighting system (and the methods for doing so vary among colleges).
