I am looking for something extra special. My sister is dying and her son (23) and daughter
(22) will graduate after she has passed. I would love to be able to get something now so my sister can put her special touch on it and my niece and nephew can receive it on the day and know it is from their mum. Nephew is going to be an actuary and my niece is doing industrial design. Both have a love for travel that was instilled by their mum. Any suggestions are welcomed. The schools are Georgia Tech and Georgia State… (not sure if this makes a difference or not for suggestions )
I am so sorry to hear that your sister is dying. I suggest you ask your sister what she’d like you to do for her son and daughter. Maybe it would be a thing you can buy; maybe it would be something “homemade,” such as your sister dictating to you a memoir or recollections of her time with her children when they were younger.
How touching that you want to do this for them. <3.
No matter what the gift ends up being, I think words from your sister - even written by you as spoken by your sister would truly, truly be priceless.
I’m really sorry for your family. If I was you I would try to make the most personal collection of memories possible with her children - like a scrapbook of photos or objects of great sentimental value. Something that they can remember their mom by.
What about something engraved? A watch with a “congratulations, love mom” engraved on it…or something like that. You and your sister could pick it out now…and you could save it for the graduations.
It is very special that you are helping her…and thinking of this now.
Can you ask your sister if she had a favorite trip she’d taken? Then arrange a trip for her kids to the same place?
Maybe an early gift for all of them (and maybe you) to go somewhere special to sis, as events are remembered more than things.
I am so sorry to hear about your sister. Levenger has a wooden commemorative box that can be engraved that the son in particular might appreciate. You could have it engraved and place notes from his mom and family pictures inside. http://www.levenger.com Item # AD6775 Maybe a more feminine box for the daughter . Agree with others , that in addition, hope they have a chance to do some things together that they can remember, if your sister is able. Again, so sorry.
So sorry for all of you to have your sis so ill. Here’s a lovely koa wooden box, suitable for men or women.
Thank you so much for replying. We are slowly working on letters to both, words from my sister and written by me. It seems quite difficult for her as I imagine things become a little more concrete when you put pen to paper. Thank again.
Thank you for responding. We are in the process of writing letters for my niece and nephew which I know they will love and hold dear to their hearts. It is becoming a little more difficult each day for her to do this so I am hoping we are able to complete them. With so many of you suggesting written letters I feel we are on the right track. Thank you again.
Thank you for responding. I love the idea of putting memories together as they certainly have many to choose from. I would love for my sister to part of this but it seems to be extremely difficult for her to even start. Memories can be a wonderful and sad thing at the same time. Thank you again.
Something engraved is a wonderful idea. They were given watches when they turned 21 so it is just to come up with an idea that can be kept for a life time. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
This is definitely something that will happen. Travel is/was so much a part of my sister and her family, and I would imagine no matter where my niece and nephew go they will have positive memories of their mum. Thank you for responding.
We are hoping our last trip together as a family will be at the beach during Christmas. We pray that she will make it but the spirit is amazing thing and as much as she loves the beach I believe we will be there. A trip to remember for sure.
Thank you for responding. This is a brilliant idea and I just love it. It is something that will last a life time and works for both my niece and nephew.
I just love the idea of an engraved wooden box. Will show my sister and hopefully we can start working on this. Thank you so much for responding.
