need advice so I can pass on said advice to my son (smile!). son is at Swarthmore doing very well with Honors Major in Computer Science, Honors Minor in Political Science and Course Major in Political Science (it’s a Swarthmore weirdness) He wants grad school but wants something that focuses on both fields. I know about Stanford’s Joint Law/CS program. Also about CMU’s CS PhD in Machine Learning and Public Policy. Are folks aware of other programs like this? Advice much appreciated.

Patent and intellectual property law?

But for patent law, he should check the undergraduate course requirements listed at http://www.uspto.gov/ip/boards/oed/GRB_March_2012.pdf (page 4-6), since Swarthmore does not have ABET accreditation in CS.

actually I think he’s more interested in constitutional law and also applying computer science to political science problems - e.g. redistricting, seeking trends from analytics etc. Think political/social science Quant sort of person. Not patent/intellectual property.

Has he asked his professors for advice?

Check out Harvard SEAS.
