Graduate Programs in Russian Literature/linguistics

I’m currently applying to Russian Literature/Linguisitics Graduate programs. UCLA Los Angeles is my top choice. Overall GPA: 3.78 GPA in major: 4.0 GRE Verbal: 720 Quantitative: 560. I majored in Russian and History as an undergraduate. I speak German and Polish fluently. I understand that the graduate programs are more concerned with the recommendations, personal statement, and writing sample, but I would like to know if, based on my student profile listed above, I could be considered a potential canidate for PhD programs at UCLA / Ohio State

It really depends on what the programs want but the subjective aspects are certainly the most important. It’s fantastic that you’re fluent in Polish as such programs want their students to know another Slavic language for job market credentials.

If you’re looking to make Russian Lit your primary focus, your Russian does need to be very strong. However, you’ll be so surprised how “little” you know Russian until you hit grad-level courses. Keep reading, writing, speaking and listening in Russian!
