So, my undergraduate history is kinda complicated. Due to family pressure, I pursued a economics major with a minor in chinese and I hated every minute of it. This resulted in a depression, a 2.8 GPA in my first two years (since I have a C- in Chinese I, a five credit course) and my parents being disappointed.
After taking a research class, I feel in love with research, decided to change my major to Political Science/INR and to pursue graduate school. So far, I have a 3.23 gpa and I feel that I could push it to a 3.4.
I know that I have the option to repeat the Chinese I. I am pretty sure I can get an A, since I only had a C- due to personal problems. This would boost my final gap to 3.52. However, my advisor told me that it is better if I take courses that actually gonna help me in my graduate career rather than to take “empty credits”. There is this certificate that a professor recommended me to do because one of the requirements is to be able to use GIS, a useful program.
So, what do you think I should do? Should I repeat Chinese I and get a higher GPA? Should I pursue the certificate? Do I have any chances at grad school at all?
