Graduate School Options after PolySci Undergrad

Hi, I am a current first year political science undergrad student who is exploring post-graduate study options aside from law school.

I initially considered pursuing an MPA/MBA but I am worried that my very below average math skills will limit me from succeeding in this field. It would also take me a considerable amount of time to reach the level of classes math classes that would make me more appealing during the admissions process.

I also considered pursuing international relations; but I am afraid that the fact I am not bilingual will severely limit the worthiness of this degree.

What other fields are available as worthy options in grad school? I am not looking to end up teaching again.

Number one, I don’t know what kind of fancy math skills you think you need to have to get an MPA or an MBA. You’d probably just need one semester of college-level calculus. More math skills are better, but there are lots of jobs in business that don’t require any advanced math.

You can become bilingual. Just because you aren’t now doesn’t mean you can’t start somewhere. (But you are correct in assuming that not having another language before you apply for an MIA program will disadvantage you. You’d need to acquire some experience post-college.

Here is a question: Why are you searching for graduate study? Graduate school is a means to an end; you undertake a very specific degree to get a specific job or career. You don’t hunt around for a degree just to get one and then figure out what to do later. So if you don’t yet know what you want to study in graduate school, the best thing to do is to work after college and figure out what kind career you want to have. THEN figure out if you need graduate school, and if so, what type.
